  1. When such a treasure leaves the land we all search the sky for the new position from which that treasure shall rest always. She was quite possibly the best person I have met in my travels of and about the globe…I still believe such after shaking many hands and hugging many necks over the years. There was always the proffered meal, always the genuine interest in ones well-being along with the will to help. In that sense, I know that an important part of my life is gone and now unavailable thus saddening me deeply.

The solice I searched for and now offer to others is that in knowing her greatness, surely she has greatness before her still…for now and always. I will truly miss you Grandma, and I love you. May you fare well on the rest of your journey through forever.

  2. The following is what I wrote to Grandma on Fri. April 4, 2008 at 00:50 PT. Her expected and hilarious response, “That’s nice.”:

    Grandma,

I love you! Thank you for marrying Grandpa! … man who passed when I was only 9 years old… but I know that his stubbornness was matched only by his work ethic and caring for his family.

Thank you for bearing your first born who became the man that brought me, along with my mom, into this world! Thank you for teaching him what he taught me! Thank you for being a caring mother to him, encouraging him and some how some way instilling in him the qualities of character and integrity and honesty and respect and courtesy and generosity! Thank you for giving me your memory genes through him! My life has permanently been altered as a result of those specific memory genes you passed along. My career is held soundly into place because of that very gene you gave to me through my dad, your son, Louis, Jr.

Thank you for Uncle Buzzy… from whom I’ve taken much humor and candor. Thank you for Uncle Pompy… from whom I’ve taken the best lemon pie and pure friendship. Thank you for Uncle Jimmy… from whom I’ve taken much wisdom, strength, knowledge, perseverance and humor. Thank you for Uncle Charley… from whom I’ve taken honor and respect for those I never knew. Thank you for Aunt Judy… from whom I’ve taken courage, love, endless hours of comedy, and most of all the power of human beings in the face of tragedy to rise up and remain strong. Thank you for Uncle Wayne… from whom I’ve taken determination and stubbornness. Thank you for Uncle Minos… from whom I’ve taken down to earth, hard working and easy-natured. Thank you (again) for my dad, Louis Melvin “D.D.”, Jr. and supporting his marriage to my mother Marilyn Kay Adolph Scarabin… from whom I’ve taken all the good that I am, ever was or ever will be .

Thank you again for your life, for your life brought about my life and for that I’m forever thankful to you, Grandma! Choices you made literally brought me into this world. I love you very much and if you should pass, we’re all right behind you… and I’m sure you’ll be waiting there for us with some iced cold tea while you’re busy doing laundry and folding clothes, huh?

    Your grandson,
    Jason Louis Scarabin

  3. Grandma you were what all of us strive to be. You were a decent person. It’s really hard in this world but you made it look easy. I thank you for having my father which led to my life and the lives of so many others. I will miss you but look forward to seeing you in the next.
    I love you.

    Your grandson,

    Joshua Henry Scarabin
