SCARABIN FAMILIES IN THE OLD WORLD
Dated: July 14, 2001
(Last Update: July 31, 2001)
Records in Scotland have been found that indicate that the SCARABIN name may date prior to the 1600s, possibly as far back as the Celts and Pics inhabitation of the British Isles. A document thought to be written in 1742 relates history and events in Scotland dating to 1715. However, it also refers to antiquities and places dating back hundreds of years and a road leading to The Mountain of Scarabin. It was said that in pre-Protestant times the people from the country folk would travel along this road on their way to devine service at Braemore. Records in France have been found going back to JEAN SCARABIN b.1614 in Louargat, Cotes D’Armor. Also found were marriage and death records in Louargat and Pedernec. A decendancy of Jean Scarabin b.1614 is listed below. From the information listed below, it is at least 50% likely that FRANCOIS JEAN SCARABIN b.1852 came from Cotes D’Armor district. Saint-Malo, where Francois Scarabin reportedly embarked, was a major port in Brittany during the 1800s. SCARABIN Families in France 1891 to Present (information obtained from internet sources), http://www.notrefamille.com/ (mes Racines)my roots, from various search engines and France-Telephone whitepages. Of the 12 communities listed below in Cotes D’Armor district, 5 are within 5 miles of Lannion, 4 more within 15 miles and 2 within 18 miles. The Scarabin families appeared to have little movement over the 100 years covered below. Most families lived on the coast or very near. See the attached maps for community location in Cotes D’Amour, Finistrie and Ille-et-Vilaine.

Jean-Marie Scarabin is a doctor and professor at Rennes University Hospital. He appears to specialize in brain surgery and has authored and co-authored many papers listed on the internet. He is also listed as having a home in Moulins, just to the Southeast of Rennes. MaryVonne Scarabin also appears to be a doctor, living in Orsay, a suburb in the Southwest of Paris. Aude Scarabin, is daughter of Herve. Judiciare appears after her name in the phone book. She lives in both Paris and Le Vieil Bauge (SW of Paris near Le-Mans). Emmanuel Scarabin appears to be a Professor of Mathmatics with a Doctorate. A number of his papers and conferences are listed on the internet. He was reported as living in Paris, but could be the same Emmanuel living in Baden on the Western coast of France. Florent Scarabin, originally from Brittany, was a student in Sweden until recently, working toward a master’s degree in mathmatics. A paper by Florent Scarabin was presented at a mathmetics conference in Sweden on June 28, 2001. It appears that Florent has left Sweden since that time. It is unknown if Florent is male or female. Pierre-Yves Scarabin appears to be a person involved in medical and pharmacutical research. He was previously with a company in the north of Paris known as Villejuif INSERM and had papers published on a variety of subjects, with the vast majority on cardiovascular and related medicine. His name has not been found on recent lists of directors, researchers or employees of the INSERM. It is unknown if Pierre-Yves of this company is one of those named Pierre listed in Rennes or La Baule, or if they are one and the same person. Francoise Scarabin works for France-Telecom. The latest note found on her on the internet is her email address, and an effort was recently made to contact her with no results. She appears to be a coordinator and contact for Telecom conferences. It is unknown at this time where she resides. Laurie Scarabin lives in Paris. She is 24 years old and a graduate of Meike Scarabin (fem) was 16 years old and a student living in Homburg, Germany when her name was found. It is assumed that she is living with her family. Homburg is about about 23 miles from the border of France near Saarbrucken. She was found on Radio RPR Eine Chat, a chat site on the internet. Celene Scarabin resides in Austria. She posted a note on the Scarabin.com bulletin board in 2000. A recent effort was made to contact her via email.
